Brief history of the sleeveless down jacket

The down jacket was designed in France in 1954 by the Moncler factory, to protect its workers against the cold. It quickly attracted the attention of mountaineer Lionel Terray, who wanted to equip himself with it for his own expeditions. He then began a collaboration with the brand, in order to adapt the garment to extreme climates. In the 1960s, Moncler became the official supplier of the French alpine ski team.

Clothing then gradually became more popular, attracting major fashion designers such as Thierry Mugler and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Over the decades, the down jacket has been revived by numerous brands, all of which have attempted to rework the aesthetic of the garment. To adapt it to an urban look, while considerably refining the silhouette, certain designers have created the down jacket in a sleeveless version. Equipped with a well-padded interior, it adopts a more modern look, while continuing to keep you warm.
